Guestbook

Hi,
have got your Guestbook up and running on our site, absolutely brilliant, thank you. As i know absolutly nothing about scripts, is there any way that i can change the email field to only accept a comment if the field has been filled in correctly with an email. This is due to the fact that people put comments on the guestbook, but do not leave their email address, so we can get back to them. I know it logs the ip address but an email address would be of great help.

Many thanks
Martin

Re: Guestbook

There is a note requesting an email address if the poster wants a reply. It is not a required field, but if the poster does enter an email, its validated for format (name@domain.tld).

We found you can't require an email, at least not for a guestbook. In a bulletin board forum, the software can email a code to the entered address to verify its a valid address, but that doesn't make sense for a guestbook app. Without the verification, if you force the poster to enter an email you'll get random text that looks like a valid email address but goes nowhere.

What you can do is put a stronger note in the header requesting the poster to provide an email address if he expects a response.
